Cameron Cook, General Manager of the Village Market, sat down with us to review some of his favorites available this season.
Kicking off Cameron’s list of favorite seasonal items at the Village Market are the fabulous take and bake biscuits from Texas Brisket Biscuit. Packaged with 1 dozen mini biscuits and their own accompanying butter for dipping, these biscuits have bite sized bits of smoked brisket folded right into the dough and are sure to be a huge hit at any holiday brunch.
Since no gathering is complete without chips & salsa, Cameron recommends loading up on the freshly prepared salsas from Blended Family Foods. Choose between a traditional, medium-heat red salsa or a unique “Avotillo” salsa verde made from tomatillos and avocado. Xochitl Organic White Corn Tortilla Chips are the perfect vessel for this zesty salsa.
Be sure to check in regularly as seasonal beer and wine selections start to come in. Cook says we can expect winter seasonal offerings such as Shiner Cheer, Rahr & Sons’ Winter Warmer and Karback Brewing’s “Yule Shoot Your Eye Out” Christmas Ale to hit the shelves around mid-November. The wine selection will also expand by up to 25% to make room for great holiday wines including Beaujolais Nouveau, a freshly fermented French red wine that is traditionally released on the third Thursday of November and is a perfect accompaniment for Thanksgiving Dinner.
Of course, you can’t have the holidays without the Texas staple—tamales! The Village Market has partnered up with a Dallas-based company to offer fresh tamales that have local farmer’s markets raving! These tamales are bursting with flavor including chicken tomatillo, beef tenderloin and ancho chile pork.
“They’re great to stock up on,” says Cook. “Just steam them up in a pot of boiling water and they’re ready to go.”
Lastly, the Village Market has added some great new seasonal gift items from brands like Thymes, Mistral and Spongellé. The iconic Frasier Fir scent from Thymes can be purchased in a variety of formats including diffusers, candles, cleaners and soaps. These all make a perfect last-minute stocking stuffer or housewarming gift.
